Wired Smart Grid Communications: Power Line Communication
Jan 28 , 2021

Power Line Communication (PLC) is a technology which allows data to be transmitted by existing power lines. With this technology, we can use the power line which transmits the current as the communication carrier, load and transmit the high-frequency signal which includes the information by the power line, and finally use the special demodulator to separate the signal and send it to the terminal equipment. PLC reduces the cost greatly and improves the efficiency of information transmission.

PLC is divided into broadband PLC and narrow band PLC, generally speaking, narrow-band PLC system is mainly used in the communication frequency band below 500kHz.

PLC is widely used in technologies such as Smart Grid and micro-inverters. In smart grid, PLC can solve practical problems such as transformer relationship, three-phase unbalance, disturbance at home for electricity companies and consumers.

With the chip self-designed by Topscomm, we developed and designed the PLC solution, including meter, communication module, DCU, MDMS, etc. Up to now, our narrow-band carrier products have been extensively installed and used in all terrain, all scenes, all climates, etc. Furthermore, our products can work very well in severe weather environments such as high temperature, low cold, high altitude and high humidity.
