Advanced Metering Infrastructure Based on Smart Meters in Smart Grid
Oct 13 , 2020

What is PLC (Power Line Communication) & AMI (Advanced Metering Infrastructure)?

PLC (Power Line Communication) uses existing power line’s technology that establish communications network and provide two-way voice, data, video and multimedia services.

AMI (Advanced Metering Infrastructure) is an infrastructure technology that uses various communication backbones such as PLC, Wi-SUN, Zigbee, high-voltage and low-voltage LTE communications for a wide range of applications including home automation and remote metering.

PLC AMI is installed in each household consisting of a PLC modem for transmitting and receiving metered data, data concentrator units (DCU) serve a crucial role in monitoring relay servers and transformers, and a metering server system that connects administrator and billing system to the power grid.

The meter big-data measure using AMI is provided by consumers as real-time billing information by the power sales information system, and the power big data supports new power business models such as demand management through a wide range of analytic forecasts. Furthermore it also monitors transformer in real-time to support quick restoration in case of power failures by determining and forecasting malfunctions.

AMI technology is becoming the national foundation for achieving creative economy by providing stable power, improving efficiency for energy usage and generating new growth engine industries.

By making energy more efficient for consumers, TOPSCOMM will create smart grid world!
